It has been a while since I've posted on this blog and if you read my last post you will know why. I'm finally getting caught up. Now just to get ahead a little bit. To all of my wonderful clients, thank you for you patience and understanding.

When I started photography 10 years ago, I really started out of an interest in the technicality of photography. Photography as a craft is highly technical: iso, focal length, f-stop, megapixels, shutter speed, flash guide numbers, megabytes, gigabytes, gigahertz, etc. Photography for me when I began was really material for my enjoyment of the technical aspect of photography.

Every once in a while I am graced to be able to step back and look at myself in action from a more detached viewpoint and when I do so I am surprised to find myself changed. After my shoot with Kelsey and Wade, as I was driving home, I realized that not once during the entire shoot did the technical aspects of photography entire in to my conscious. The camera was simply an extension of my hand and eye and the manipulation of the camera was no more conscious than the manipulation of my hand to hold or eye to see.

So what? It was again, for me, a recognition that I've changed. I shoot now to see life. The camera is simply my ticket to look at life and relationships and be struck again by the newness that reality always is, to be moved by gift of the circumstances which I get to see.

Being moved is simply a reaction of my heart to seeing.

Running Behind and the Reasons.

I just wanted to drop a note to all of my current clients who are waiting for album designs that are taking longer than usual and ask for your patience and give the reason for the delay.

On Thanksgiving Day this year my father passed away from pancreatic cancer. Starting two months before his death, I spent every single weekend that I was able with him. Then start two to three weeks before his death I basically lived with him in order to assist in his care. This time was absolutely the most beautiful time I've spent in my life. The day after his funeral I had an emergency removal of my appendix which put me out of commission for another week plus. Christmas and New Years, especially after my father passed away so recently extended my non-working time another ten days. Since I've been able to get back into the office and work I've spent all of my time meeting deadlines for clients who I photographed during this period.

Starting last week, I was completely caught up with these obligation and I am now fervently designing and producing albums.

Boe + Casey = Married! | St. Thomas and Bear Path Golf

This wedding really challenged me to know why I do what I do. Let me explain. Often times in life we do things as routine or according to plans or according to our calendar, which for me fills up over a year in advance. In this business we lose sight of why.

On Thanksgiving day this year my father passed away with his funeral the following Monday. Then on the next day, Tuesday, I had my appendix removed in an emergency operation that had me in the hospital, where I grew up, until that Wednesday. The following two days were filled with me trying to decide if I was able to shoot this wedding between Boe and Casey. As you can see, I did shoot this wedding because I got the answer to my question from reality and memory of faith.

I was in front of quite a few really good excuses to not shoot this wedding, father's death, major surgery, etc. so I really did have to decide to shoot this wedding and I am glad that I did.

As you will see Boe and Casey are wonderful people, surrounded by wonderful people.

This experience reminded me of why I shoot weddings: Beauty with a capital "B". The kind of Beauty that calls you to faith.

Barry + Debbie = Engaged! | Brainerd Engagement Photography

Barry and Debbie drove up from the Twin Cities to shoot their engagement session with me in the woods of the Brainerd Lakes Area and the tremendous fall colors that were here only a short time ago.

Many major, life changing events have happened in my life in the past few weeks and I want to thank Barry and Debbie for their patience with me. I want to thank all of my clients for their patience with me.

Fryxellent.... if you don't personally know David and Rebecca you might not know the correct pronunciation to make this funny, but if you do it's freekin' funny if I do say so myself.... okay, maybe cheesy and childish, but still funny as hell. David and Rebecca's wedding was freekin' Fryxellent!

On a more serious note, here's a toast to you guys. May you both be forever more and more true to your hearts and may today forever be the day that you love each other the least.

Tim + Ashlee = Married-bliss-ness!

If ever I have seen a man devoted to fulfilling the wants and desires of his love, it is Tim for Ashlee. There wedding day speaks volumes about what they value in life and I was honored to be invited to document their wedding day.

Preston + Aimee + Old Farm + After-Shoot? = YES, PLEASE!

Preston and Aimee decided that we needed to completely rock out Aimee's Grandpa's farm the day after their wedding and I think we were successful!

Aimee and Preston just trusted me with complete creative freedom on their After-Shoot and we captured some seriously awesome images.

Aimee is an up and coming photographer herself so shooting her wedding and after-shoot (coming soon) were great! Every time I go to a wedding I am always amazed by the family and friends that all of my couples are graced with, they are indeed a blessing.

After the ceremony, I couldn't resist these two images of Aimee.

After the ceremony we headed to Zorba's on Gull for a few drinks.

Preston and Aimee's reception and dance was at a local restaurant called Mayson's Grille, the food was great and the venue offered a unique atmosphere.

Preston and Aimee were my first couple yet to have a karaoke option at their wedding dance and it was well used by family and friends.

Preston decided to participate in the karaoke and serenade his new wife!

I was introduced to Jeri and Mike through one of Jeri's good friend's who just happens to be the awesome wedding coordinator at my two favorite wedding and reception locations in the Crosslake Area: Manhattan Beach Lodge and Whitefish Lodge.

Then I show up to photography their engagement session to find my favorite florist, Sarah from Lime Greenery, there because she's good friend with Jeri as well! Great way to start a session.

Our session started at Moonlite Bay where Mike and Jeri both work and where their reception will be held.

Show us the freekin' pictures already!

After Moonlite we headed to Manhattan Beach Lodge for some more great images.

Keana + Andrea = Engaged and getting married in MEXICO!!!

Keane and Andrea are getting married in MEXICO... that's pretty much awesome if you ask me. I first met Andrea and Keane when they drove down from Walker, MN on beautiful Leach Lake to shoot their engagement session in Brainerd.

We started by wondering downtown Brainerd, then heading to Cragun's Legacy Golf Course to finish.

After exploring Downtown Brainerd, we headed to Cragun's Legacy Golf Course for a few images on the course. The staff at Cragun's were extremely gracious in letting us go out on the course to make these images.
